Background activity, turned into a daily recap.

A system that runs quietly in the background now sends a plain-language summary every day, so nobody has to dig through logs.

An Isolora project. Financial details are kept private.

Who
Isolora's own project: an automated system that runs in the background.
Challenge
Knowing what the system had done meant checking raw logs by hand.
What we built
A scheduled job on a cloud server that reads the logs and emails a clear daily recap.
Result
Daily recap emails arriving on their own, with delivery confirmed in the inbox across several months.

The challenge

Automated systems keep working when nobody is watching, but their activity ends up in logs that are hard to read. Checking them by hand takes time, and it's easy to miss a day.

The goal was simple: an update that arrives on its own, in plain language, every day, including days when there is nothing to report.

What we built

  • Reads the logs for youA Python job collects the day's activity and status from the system's logs.
  • Writes it in plain languageThe recap explains what happened, without the jargon.
  • Runs on its ownIt runs on a cloud server on a schedule, so it doesn't depend on a laptop being open.
  • Even on quiet daysA recap still arrives when nothing happened, so silence never leaves you guessing.

How AI helped

AI wrote the reporting scripts and the schedule, and dug into problems when they came up. We set the requirements and how updates should arrive, and pushed back whenever an expected update didn't show up, which led to a sturdier server-based setup.

The result

Daily recap emails now arrive automatically, and their delivery is confirmed in the inbox across several months, not just on a schedule on paper.

Under the hood

The technology, in plain words.

Automation

  • Python
  • cron
  • DigitalOcean

A scheduled job on a cloud server that reads the logs every day.

Delivery

  • Resend
  • Gmail

Sends the recap and lands it in the inbox.

What do these words mean?
Logs
The running record a system keeps of everything it does.
cron
A built-in scheduler that runs tasks at set times on a server.
DigitalOcean
A cloud provider that rents out servers.
Resend
An email delivery service for sending automated emails reliably.

What this means for you

If you rely on a tool that runs in the background, you shouldn't have to check on it by hand. A short daily summary, in words you understand, keeps you informed without the effort. We can set one up for your systems too.
